Member's Only 50-Yard Iron-Sight .22 LR Competition

ELIGIBILITY - The match is open to SCCSFA members only. Youths under the age of 18 who are children or legal wards of a member may also participate. The member parent/guardian must be present for the entire time. The 100 yd and 50 yd matches will be run simultaneously, so members cannot sign up for both. A maximum of 18 members will be permitted to sign up for either match. All participants must have waivers on file.

THE GAME - This is a 50 yd. shooting challenge using rifles chambered in .22 LR only. The object is to shoot the highest score possible. The 50 yd. competition allows iron sights or red/green dot sights with no magnification only.

THE TARGET - The targets are 3/8” thick  rimfire plates, 6”,  4”, and 1” . Each plate has a value, 1 point for the 6”, 2 points for the 4”. And 3 points for the 2”.

THE PROCEDURE - There are 3 sets of targets on each range. 6 shooters will set up on each range and work in pairs, alternating between shooting and keeping score. There will be 3 relays, allowing for a total of 18 shooters.

THE SETUP - From a bench rest (limited to bipods and bags) each shooter, with 10 rounds of ammunition, begins by shooting for the largest plate. The shooter has a 3-minute time limit to complete their round, The clock starts with the “Commence Fire” command.

THE ORDER - If the shooter hits the first plate, they score 1 point and now can choose to advance to the second plate or continue shooting for the first plate. If the shooter advances to the second plate and connects, that hit is worth 2 points, and they now can choose to shoot for the third plate.

EXAMPLE - (Dave shoots and hits the first plate, scoring 1 point. Dave says he’s going to shoot for the second plate, he hits it scoring 2 more points. Dave says he’s going for the third plate, shoots and misses scoring a zero, and now must move back to the second plate. If Dave misses his shot on the second plate, he will score another zero and be forced to move back to the first plate. If Dave hits the second plate he’ll score 2 points and again have the opportunity to shoot at the third plate.)

THE RULES - The shooter must tell the scorekeeper when they switch plates. A hit only counts if it’s a solid plate hit, rubber hanger hits do not count. If the shooter misses, they must go back one plate. If the shooter shoots the wrong plate, it counts as a zero and the shooter must resume shooting on the correct plate.

THE SCORE - The score is totaled after each shooter, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game has every shooter fire 3 complete sets for a total of 30 rounds of ammunition. The highest possible score for a competition is 81 points. In case of a tie score, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single round
score.
