NRA Basic RIFLE



The NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a Rifle safely.  Through this course, the students will learn about rifle parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, rifle shooting fundamentals and positions, including bench rest, free arm and arm rest standing.  The Basic Rifle Course is required to participate Rifle Instructor Course that will be offered in the near future.


Prerequisite:  None.

Class Content:

  • Classroom in the morning
  • Live shooting on the range in the afternoon
  • Written test
  • Total length approx. 8 hours.

Items Needed:

  • Your own rifle
  • Ammo (100 round+)
  • Eye protection (with Safety ratings, prescription/sunglasses not accepted)
  • Ear protection (electronic type recommended - so you can hear instructor's commands easily)

Lunch available (pizza).  Please bring $5.

Registration on NRA website required (to get an NRA certificate at the completion of the class).  Pay at SCCSFA portal (to get discounted member price).
