Sunday 3/30 match rescheduled

Given the heavy rains and potential flooding that are expected to continue through tomorrow, we will be postponing  tomorrow’s scheduled blackpowder match.

Sorry for the late notice, I had hoped that we might catch a break and the rain would diminish but the latest weather report is claiming otherwise.

The Smokin’ Spring Thing will be rescheduled. New date to be determined. Tentatively scheduled for April 27th.

Topics covered will include safe handling of firearms, type of shotgun actions and how they function, and ammunition construction and usage. Students will be exposed to the different types of shotgun actions (pump, semi-automatic, break open, bolt action) and will then be given hands on training to safely load and unload each type of shotgun. They will learn how to select the proper ammunition for each intended use and how shotgun ammunition is constructed. No firearms or ammunition will be required for the classroom session and no live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom.

Parts 2 to 4 will be held on the trap field.

Part 2 – Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting – 1:00pm to 3:30 pm Saturday October 26

This class will cover the fundamentals of shotgun shooting including the proper stance and use of the dominant eye. There will be drills using clay targets to allow students to practice the stance and swing to target fundamentals using both dry fire and live fire exercises. Students will be given the opportunity to shoot a pattern on paper to determine if they are properly mounting and pointing the shotgun. All ammunition in this class will be provided by the instructors.

Part 3 – Practical Exercises – 10:00 am to 12:30 pm Saturday November 2.

Using the fundamentals taught in part 2, students will participate in a live fire drill using clay targets. Targets will be thrown at various angles so that students can learn to judge the proper lead required for each target presentation and can master the swing and follow through necessary to master shotgun shooting. Following the exercise, students will participate in a workshop devoted to proper cleaning and maintenance of a shotgun.

Part 4 – Introduction to Shotgun Sports – 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm
